Christopher Burry

Christopher Burry has over 30 years of experience in the technology industry and as a serial entrepreneur. His background covers Enterprise Architecture, software development, infrastructure technologies, operating systems, methodology development and IT operations.

As an entrepreneur, Mr. Burry has found multiple companies in the software and services sectors.  He has served as a coach and mentor to entrepreneurs since 2005.

Mr. Burry is a Global Ambassador and Adjunct Faculty at The Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology in the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley where he teaches classes on entrepreneurship and mentors students [Annex 20].

In addition to his work at UC Berkeley, Mr. Burry is currently the co-CEO at the US Market Access Center.  In this role, he teaches classes and workshops, coaches and mentors entrepreneurs on a global basis and speaks at international conferences.  Over the last 10 years, he has trained and mentored well over 2,500 startups in over 40 countries. USMAC’s alumni have raised over $2.5B in capital and collectively are worth in excess of $8B USD.

While at USMAC, Mr. Burry has led the company’s engagement with the Bangladeshi Ecosystem. His activities on support of Bangladesh include:

  1. Attending the 2017 Digital World Conference in Dhaka. At the conference, he conducted training and mentoring sessions for over 50 startups.
  2. Conducting a 3-day training bootcamp of over 50 startups at Bangladesh University. [2018]
  3. Conducting a “Future of Tech” briefing session for the Energy Ministry and the ICT Ministry. [2018]
  4. Organized Silicon Valley support for the COVID-19 accelerator, including a session on angel investing by the Band of Angels. [2020]

In 1999, he co-founded Avanade (a Joint Venture between Accenture and Microsoft). During his ten years at Avanade, Mr. Burry was a member of the Global Leadership Team and served in a variety of leadership roles including, Chief Information Officer, and Global Practice Director for Infrastructure Collaboration and Security.

During his first two years at Avanade, Mr. Burry led the team that opened offices in 15 cities in 12 countries.  At the time of his departure in 2009, the company had reached almost USD $1B in revenue. In his capacity as the Global Practice Director, he was responsible for over 3,000 employees and managed a P&L of over $250M. Today, Avanade is a wholly owned subsidiary of Accenture with revenue in excess of $4B USD.

Prior to joining the USMAC, Mr. Burry spent over nine years at Avanade, holding a wide range of senior leadership roles.  He was a member of the founding team and was the first CIO of the company.  During his time as CIO, Avanade grew from a single, small location to having operations on 17 cities in 12 countries around the global with 3 geographically dispersed data centers. Mr. Burry led this global expansion effort.

As a Technology Fellow, Mr. Burry helped define Avanade’s overall strategy, technical direction, “Go to Market” solutions, and delivery accelerators.

Prior to joining Avanade, Mr. Burry held various positions at Andersen Consulting, EDS, and other organizations.

Mr. Burry has personally led entrepreneurial training and market entry programs more than 40 countries including Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, France, Italy, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Georgia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
