On September 26 StrategEast founder and president Anatoly Motkin has held a briefing for US Senate Foreign Relations and Science and Technology committees staff on the role of IT industry in transforming the economy in Eurasian countries from natural resource oriented model to a knowledge driven economy. Special stress has been put on the importance of the private property protection in those countries and the measures that should be undertaken to encourage the local governments to protect the IPR.

Tallinn-based startup Gelatex is selected as one of 10 startups to join The Heritage Group Accelerator Powered by Techstars, a new US-based startup accelerator focused on reinventing traditional industries.

StrategEast Founder and President Anatoly Motkin in his op-ed for the Financial Times which was published on the 4^th of September states: “According to a Special 301 Report published annually by the US trade representative’s office, one of the principal accusations the US government makes against post-Soviet states included in the report’s watch list is the use of unlicensed software by government agencies. An understanding of the value of protecting intellectual property rights is absent not only among ordinary citizens but also in their government institutions.” Nevertheless, most post-Soviet countries have declared their intention to transition from a resources-based economy to a knowledge-driven one, writes Mr. Motkin.
